originally buried on the battlefield near Le Rutoire Farm at 36c.G17a.4.8½. His body was exhumed in October 1919 (from G17b.5.4, identified by graves registration cross) and moved to Plot V, Row D, Grave 7 in Dud Corner Military Cemetery at Loos, Pas-de-Calais, France. Gravestone: “Lieutenant L.H. Berlein, Royal Berkshire Regiment, 25^th September 1915, Age 22” - personal inscription: “The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God” CWGC

A wooden cross marked with his name was found in a church in South Africa in the 1990s and installed at the bottom of his nephew's garden looking out over the valley alongside that of his brother. The harshness of the environment meant that it disintegrated over time and now is no more.
