  • A German school (he was sent on his own on a train to Germany and was not allowed to speak English after the first 3 weeks - unsurprisingly he became a fluent German speaker).

 

Decorations & Campaign Medals:

  • Military Cross (MC) (1st January 1917 – awarded in New Year Honours, no citation)

 

  • French Croix de Guerre (First World War, date unknown)
  • 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
  • Second World War awards unknown (probably Defence Medal 1939-45, War Medal 1939-45)

 

Memorials: 

  • None (funeral at the Downs Crematorium, Brighton, Sussex, England, with a military colour party (though no musketry) provided by the Guards Depot in Caterham. Cremated and his ashes scattered in I Section of their memorial grounds).
